The Winner’s Curse –

A Word on Games
A Word on Games
Children of our generation spend hours alone watching the iPad, alone in front of a smart device, and alone taking tests. A majority of our children’s lives are spent in isolation.
An insightful TED Talk by Gabe Zichermann called “Changing the Game in Education” stated how modern education is fundamentally opposed to our nature as humans. Demanding us to sit still and pay attention does very little for our education when in reality we learn more by trying, making mistakes, and achieving. Experiencing the chemical benefits of the pleasure we feel when dopamine is released through our achievements reinforces us to remember and to learn far more efficiently.
Most people like to read or listen, but it’s proven that you learn better by simulating than any other method of education.
As R.F. Mackay writes for Stanford University:
“We may think we’re pretty smart, but in fact, we have very little notion of how humans learn. Kids know: They play games. Until that is, they go to school. That is when the games stop. And often, so does the learning.”
Games are significant because they compose simulation-based learning and encourage cooperative learning. In the real world, being able to cooperate with as many people as possible are very important human skills. Therefore, we need to learn how to operate as an individual as well as a member of a team.
— With TLG, our team believes that we can always improve those skills starting at a young age. Children are the future pillars of the world.
